SafeDisc discs with active protection always have some errors in the first 10000 (approximately) sectors.
The number can be really small (under 100 errors, SafeDisc Lite) or up to 800+ errors, in some cases.
If you see 0 errors in the data track, the protection is not active, and it doesn't need to be added to the protection field.
Sometimes version might be "expunged" and has to be found by checking the authserv string in one of the .tmp files.
For CDs - if no intentional C2 errors, it is just remnants.
- Same if errors are present but no Safedisc files are present on disc
- (a "Disc is mastered like a SafeDisc-protected disc, but executables are not protected" line is often added to Redump comments).
