The reason (as of 2020-Mar-15) why LG/Asus BD ODDs needs to be flashed into Asus BW-16D1HT 3.02 (DE - Downgrade Enable) (most probably ODDs using PCB: '''JB8 2015.05.08''') is because that firmware supports Lead-in and the OpCode 0xf1[http://forum.redump.org/post/72629/#p72629][https://github.com/saramibreak/DiscImageCreator/commit/0eaf36944a1fc8531b303d1168c82fe8d6a04ec4] (normally used by Plextors to read the EEPROM, but in the case with Asus BW-16D1HT 3.02, it reads the cache) to read 1 sector[http://forum.redump.org/post/72760/#p72760] of Lead-out through cache.

The old 3.10 modified firmware is no longer recommended to be flashed as it is obsoleted by [[OmniDrive]]. There are no downsides to flashing [[OmniDrive]] over the old modified 3.10 firmware, all previous features are retained with no downsides. While the 3.10 modified firmware remains acceptable for new dumps, we strongly recommend upgrading firmware as soon as possible, and using it for new dumps.

Note: If you have issues or questions with flashing your drive, please ask on the redump forum or VGPC discord. It is much easier to help you before you flash your drive, than after flashing it incorrectly!.

History

On 2022-04-04, RibShark released a modified version of the ASUS 3.10 firmware that enabled lead-out reading without using the cache.

On 2026-02-18, RibShark released OmniDrive, including a modified version of the ASUS 3.02 firmware that has the same features as the original modified 3.10 firmware (enabled lead-out reading), and many more features and improvements!

The old 3.10 modified firmware is no longer recommended to be flashed as it is obsoleted by OmniDrive. There are no downsides to flashing OmniDrive over the old modified 3.10 firmware, all previous features are retained with no downsides. While the 3.10 modified firmware remains acceptable for new dumps, we strongly recommend upgrading firmware as soon as possible, and using it for new dumps.
