SafeDisc
From Redump Wiki
SafeDisc CD's with active protection always have some errors in the first 10000 (approximately) sectors.
The number can be really small (under 100 errors, SafeDisc Lite) or up to 800+ errors, in some cases.
If you see 0 errors in the data track, the protection is not active, and it doesn't need to be added to the protection field.
Sometimes version might be "expunged" and has to be found by checking the authserv string in one of the .tmp files.
For CDs - if no intentional C2 errors, it is just remnants.
- Same if errors are present but no Safedisc files are present on disc
- (a "Disc is mastered like a SafeDisc-protected disc, but executables are not protected" line is often added to Redump comments).
Apple Macintosh discs can have SafeDisc.
.DMI is required for SafeDisc DVD. These do not have any errors.
Plextors and SafeDisc
While not to common, Plextors will sometimes add extra errors within the SafeDisc range. These are not picked up as wrong be Redumper and can be hard to spot. But if you suspect this might be the case (based on other dumps of the same game) in a submission, ask the dumper to provide a second set of logs.
