Dumping CD-Rs with Errors in the Last 2 Sectors
From Redump Wiki
Many CD-Rs have Errors in their Last 2 Sectors due to how the discs were "mastered". These dumps are usually not bad, but require extra steps to ensure QC when adding to redump.
Steps
- Dump your CD-R with MPF/DiscImageCreator. If there are no errors, a .bin file will be created and your dump is good. If you had errors at the end of the dump, dump the disc a second time.
- Compare the hashes of your first and second dumps, if they match then your dump is good. Otherwise, dump it a couple more times to see if you can get matching hashes - if you can't get matching hashes then more investigation is required.
- When you have two dumps with matching hashes, keep one of the dumps and delete the others.
- Launch Descrambler_CDDA.exe and under "Input cdda 2352 per sector file:" select the three "..." button to find your .scm file. Click "Unscramble".
- Now you have a good disc image ready for adding to Redump.
Adding to Redump
In addition to the normal submission steps, you'll need to do the following.
- Get the hashes & file size of the file.
- Figure out what Mode the CD-Rom cue should be.
- Download CDmage -> right click -> "Run as administrator".
- File -> Open -> select your .bin file -> "Open"
- Now you can select the "Mode" in which you can open the disc image. Select "M1", if you get an error "Invalid format of the file...", that means your disc is NOT Mode 1. Now try again with "M2" (Mode 2), your disc should mount.
- During submission, mention which Mode your disc is. This will be necessary for adding to the cue file.
- Copy + paste the link to this guide in your submission to the Mod adding your disc will have context.
