The ATIP or Absolute Time in Pregroove is the precursor to the MID and contains valuable information about the disc including the dye used in the disc, if the disc is rewritable, how much storage the disc can actually hold and of course the manufacturer. Just like the MID in DVDR media this can be faked and isnt always the best indicator or who truly made the disc. In many cases it only tells who made the master.
