An attempt to document all Audio-CD-based Datel CheatWare update discs (incl. GameShark, Action Replay, Equalizer, Gold Finger, etc).
More research is needed to determine if there are any Audio CD-based discs for updating Datel cheat devices for systems other than the PlayStation (e.g. Sega Saturn).

History

Datel cheat devices were sold by InterAct as the GameShark in the US (until 2003/4), by Karat as the Action Replay in Japan, and sold in Asia by Hong Kong-based company EMS under many names including the Gold Finger. The Equalizer (compatible with Action Replay codes) was sold by Datel in Europe alongside the Action Replay.

In 2003/4, InterAct's parent company Recoton went bankrupt and Mad Catz bought the GameShark name for the US region. Mad Catz ceased selling Datel devices in the US under the Gameshark name and began to sell Fire-based cheat devices instead (among other products), while Datel sold their own devices in the US under the Action Replay name. Fire-based devices, sometimes marketed as Blaze devices by Fire International Ltd, were originally created by a former Project Manager at Datel who worked on the Action Replay. Fire-based devices were sold as the Xplorer and Xploder, as the Codebreaker (distributed by Pelican Accessories) in the US until 2004(?), and were also sold by GameTech as the X-Terminator in Japan. More research is needed to determine if any of these Fire-based devices had Audio CD-based update discs, or only PC CD-ROM update discs [1].

Europe

Research needed: Cheat Factory, Game Champion, and CodeStream products. The Equalizer was marketed as having optional upgrade CDs [2].
The Game Champion series for PlayStation were memory cards with game saves (Tekken 3, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, and Crash Bandicoot Warped memory cards are known to exist).
Game Champion CDs allowed Equalizer or Action Replay owners to use the cheat device to move saves to their own memory card.
